CLAY
From our earliest times clay has been utilized in medicine, farming, architecture,
writing tablets, ornaments, sculpture, infrastructure, and so much more. Clay is an essential
building block of both life and creation, and has historically symbolized rejuvenation,
renewal, and reincarnation. It is a fundamental ingredient in soil, and combines with organic
matter to become “mud,” an endearing term many ceramic potters call it.
Clay is the first exhibit of The Smithy’s 2024 season. As the title of this exhibit implies, clay will serve as the central medium to all works on display. All three floors of The Smithy Gallery will feature work by Smithy Member Artists along with Guest Artists who have been invited based on their exceptional and creative talents with this medium.
Guest Artists: Veronica Byun, Jasmine Crowe, Naomi DeMuth, Rhonda Engel, Diana Hall, Megan Irving, Richard Marchant, Eileen Murphy, Gloria Nixon-Crouch, Pam Noonan, and Anna Sea.
